Current Status of Yellowstone Wolves
Population in Yellowstone
As of the beginning of 2024 the National Park Service has posted figures on the current population status of the wolves in Yellowstone. With at least 124 wolves in the park.
Restablished Foodchain
Wolves have primarily been feeding on the elk population with the occasional bison. Most of the bison are either killed by the winters or by fights in the breeding season.
Current Ecosystem
Wolves are providing food for other carrion eaters as they hunt elk through the year with bears usurping wolves of their kills. While also ensuring the movement of elk herds and keeping the food supply for beavers plentiful. Since reintroduction to the park beaver population has increased drastically benefiting the biodiversity of the Yellowstone ecosystem.
